The Best Goal Setting Activities to Achieve Your Dreams!

With goal setting activities sometimes being mundane, this blog post will show you the best ones to achieve your dreams. February is around the corner. How are you feeling about your New Year’s resolutions? Did everything go as planned, or are you struggling to keep up with the many goals you’ve made for yourself?

My favourite goal setting activities, habit tracker!

Goal setting activities can be the perfect way to continue or restart your new year’s goals. This blog post is all about the best goal-setting activities to achieve optimal results and ensure you live the dream life you deserve. 

Fun goal-setting activity for adults: Habit Tracker  

I’ve found the best way to motivate myself is through a habit tracker. This is one of the many goal-setting activities that can show you how much you have progressed. I created a habit tracker based on ideas from the internet when I searched for a habit tracker and drew it straight into my bullet journal. 

Not only is this a fun goal setting activity, but I am continuously motivated when I see how much I have progressed over the month. Plus, the habit tracker is super cute! Loads of apps do the same thing, such as Habit Tracker on the app store, that will track all kinds of habits and give you a serotonin boost. 

Some people may prefer tracking habits on an Apple watch and ask, “How do you set activity goals on an Apple watch”? For most Apple watches, you can always track your sleep, workout, and mindfulness minutes. To track an activity such as working out, you can ask Siri or manually click on the workout app and start monitoring the activity. 

Goal setting activity for students

Goal setting activities for students are crucial to succeeding as a student both academically and personally. I remember using SMART goals in middle and high school; I am so glad I was introduced to this method because it helped me succeed in my classes. If you are unaware, SMART goals are Specific, measurable, Attainable, and Realistic goals. 

This is a perfect goal setting activity for high school students, as it is an easy way to introduce the idea of goals and teach the importance of goals. This is the perfect goal-setting activity. As you go through each aspect, evaluate if it fits the criteria to ensure you can achieve your goal. 

Moreover, it is expected to overestimate how much you can accomplish within certain constraints; therefore, SMART goals are perfect. 

Vision Board 

One of my other favourite goal-setting activities is creating a vision board! Vision boarding is a beautiful way to envision your dream life through pictures and is a source of motivation. 

Your vision board can be digital, a written list, or a hand-made one with cutouts from a magazine. An easy way to create a vision board digitally is through the free website Canva. Another way to create a digital board is by having one photo as your phone or desktop wallpaper. 

Next, you can also have a simple written list that is incredibly specific on what you want. I learned this from Roxie Nafousi, a manifestation queen and pro, who describes this in her manifestation techniques. 

Lastly, if you are old school, handmade vision boards are always an easy and rewarding route. Simply gather photos from the internet that embody your goals and put them on a Google doc. Next, print all the pictures, cut them out and stick them on a board with glue. 

Accountability Partner 

In addition to these fantastic goal setting activities, an accountability partner has to be one of the best. You can quickly lose sight of your goals if you do not feel some kind of pressure, and sometimes, a healthy amount of peer pressure can do the trick. 

To pick an accountability partner for this goal setting activity, choose someone who inspires and pushes you to work harder. For instance, if your goal is to run at least 4x a week, your accountability partner may be a regular runner and has been doing so for the last year. 

This experienced runner and you can schedule morning runs together where you will be forced to show up. Otherwise, you will let them down and yourself down. It is an excellent motivation source and ensures you align your behaviour towards your goal! 

Journaling 

Of course, I could only have a blog post about goal-setting activities by discussing the beautiful magic of journaling. Journaling is a great way to self-reflect and figure out how you feel about your goals. 

Taking the same running 4x a week goal as an example, start a running log in your journal and write about how you feel after a run. If you thought sluggish or energetic, where you ran, what the weather was like, etc. This is a great way to feel more connected to your goal and remind yourself why you are doing it. 

After all, the journey is the destination 🙂 

Working backwards 

As for the last goal-setting activities, working backwards is a method I learned today. Working backwards means precisely what it says: assume you have already achieved your goal and look back to see what you would have done to achieve that. 

For instance, if I want to run at least 4x a week, I need to schedule it into my weekly calendar and wake up a bit earlier to have the time to run. Moreover, I must ensure I have the proper running gear, such as good running shoes and athletic gear. 

Not only this, but I will need to account for changes in my schedule and days when I need more sleep to take the run in another part of the day or indoors if the weather is terrible.
