Mindfulness activities for adults can feel over-hyped sometimes, with the surplus of TikTok health trends quickly taking over your phone. But, they don’t have to be! Mindfulness activities for adults range from quiet walks by yourself to painting to find your inner artist.

There are plenty of ways to be mindful without even realising it. Do not let the fear of not finding stop you from experiencing an extraordinarily balanced mind! This blog post will tell you all about mindfulness activities for adults and how actually to enjoy them.

Mindfulness activities for adults

Some of the best mindfulness activities for adults can be healing for our inner child, which is essential to an overall healing and personal growth journey.

One especially helpful activity is following a journal prompt (as you already know, I can’t go through a blog post without mentioning the power of journaling. I believe journaling can create a greater sense of connection with yourself, allowing you to find inner peace.

There are plenty of online prompts that can help you connect to your inner child, creating an extremely beneficial mindfulness activity for adults. Not only this, but there are also mindfulness prompts that you can also find online to help you feel calm.

Journaling also allows you to reflect on your past experiences making you connect to your inner self.

Mindfulness Activities for Active People

If you are a fitness person and interested in finding mindfulness activities to get you in shape there are plenty of ways to do so. Firstly, simply by going on a walk outside, but without music playing through your headphones or watching something on your phone.

Keep your phone on silent, and focus on the sound of your feet, the sounds around you, and observe your surroundings. Being mindful means to feel aware of what your brain is thinking about and just let it go. This is a perfect mindfulness activity for adults, as you can do this straight from your home.

Another great idea is to go on a run, but again without any stimulation. Focus on your breath, the sound of your feet hitting the ground, the wind and anything else (as always, beware of your surroundings).

Last but not least, yoga is an incredible mindfulness activities for adults as you focus on your breathing and stretching, to be in sync with each other, making you feel relaxed. This is a great activity to do at home or at a class with some friends.

Mindfulness Activities for People Who Are Busy

Being mindful is a great excuse to take some time, but it can be challenging to set aside time when you are busy. But, like with all things in life, you have to carve out the time in your schedule to do it, and I believe that mindfulness activities are worth the extra time spent scheduling.

There is a term called “habit-stacking”, a psychologically coined term backed by research, where you plan out a habit that you will do and “stack” another one on top of it. For instance, if I want to practice the 5 senses method, but I do not have enough time, I can practice this on my way to work in the metro.

The five senses method is to use your five senses to be aware of your surroundings and use it as a guide to countdown what you observe. First, think about 5 things you can see, then 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste.

Mindfulness activities for adults do not have to be difficult, there are ways to add them into your schedule! It just takes a little preparation and organisation of your schedule.

Mindfulness activity for creatives

Mindfulness activities for adults who are creative are perfect for those who want to get their daily dose of fun in their schedule and mindfulness in one! Another example of habit-stacking is here ;).

One of my personal favourites are coloring books, you can find these online on Amazon. Colouring books are great pass time when you are watching a show, listening to some music, or simply sitting down with yourself and to focus on filling in the pages properly.

In addition to colouring books, you can also take up a hobby like knitting or crocheting. With plenty of YouTube videos out there to get you started, this can also be a relatively cheap activity to get started with. All you will need are a pair of needles, yarn, and some patience to get started!

Mindful activities for when you don’t feel like it

It can be really difficult to try and have mindfulness activities for adults when you do not feel like it. I struggle with this myself, especially when our lives are so busy it can feel really hard to schedule out time to do something for yourself.

But, let me remind you that taking for yourself is incredibly important! Just 10-15 minutes a day can change the entire course of your day and make you feel so much better.

A way that I like to ensure I can complete a mindfulness activity is to make it extremely easy for myself. For instance, if I want to meditate in the morning, I will keep my yoga mat next to my bed and have my headphones next to it as well so it is the first thing I see. I will set my alarm ten minutes earlier, so I have the time to complete it.

Additionally, mindful activities that do not require a bunch of effort are the ones that you normally do, such as going on a walk, or commuting to work. Using the 5-4-3-2-1 senses method, you can easily spend some time grounding yourself during these normal routines.

Conclusion

Overall, it is sometimes hard to find ways to schedule in mindfulness activities for ourselves when our lives are hectic, but I want to show you that it can be incredibly easy.

I hope that this blog post taught you how to schedule some mindfulness into your life and to find an activity that you enjoy!
