Did you find healthy food prep ideas for your new year? As January 2024 approaches, how close are you to your new year’s goals? Fear not! There are plenty of healthy food prep ideas in this blog post to help you out. Food prepping is an easy and approachable way to kickstart your journey to a healthier lifestyle.

These are suitable for BUSY people, who don’t have enough time and can only dedicate a few hours to cooking in a week. From students, working people, and parents, everyone can benefit from this post! This blog post is all about the best healthy food prep ideas to make yourself.

Healthy Food Prep Ideas for Breakfast

Breakfast has to be one of the best meals of the day. Many health experts say that eating breakfast is a start to a great way to replenish your nutrients and break the night fast. If you are struggling with healthy food prep ideas for breakfast because of the morning rush, keep that from holding you back from eating breakfast. Here are two ideas for a savoury and sweet breakfast you can easily make.

Savoury Idea

The first and one of my personal favourites is oats. Most often, oats are used as a sweet breakfast, so to make it savoury might seem odd to some people, but trust me, it works, and meal prepping makes it more accessible.

For the first meal prep idea, you will need steel-cut oats, eggs (or a protein alternative), avocados, tomatoes, spinach, and seasonings (my personal favourite is everything but bagel seasoning and sriracha) of your liking. Next, chop your tomatoes into small pieces. You can either hard boil or scramble your eggs in advance.

Lastly, assemble your containers by putting everything together and placing the amount of dry oats where you would like in the container. The only thing you’ll need to do in the morning is make the oats, stir everything with the seasoning, and cut up the avocado.

Sweet Idea

If you are looking for healthy food prep ideas that are sweet and cold, then you’ll love this one! This is extremely easy and super yummy. It’s an overnight yoghurt bowl! Place the amount of Greek yoghurt (it can also be flavoured) you would like in your jars, then top it off with any berries of your kind (frozen is also okay), honey for some sweetness, chia seeds, and non-sugary granola.

Healthy food ideas for lunch

Lunch can be difficult because buying something on the go is easy, but prepping the night before can be much easier. Don’t worry about your lunch taking up too much space, these ideas are perfect to take not too much space, but be just as filling.

Veggie Wraps

Grab some whole-grain tortillas, and you can make your lunches for a week! Chop up tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, and any other vegetables. Spread some hummus on the tortilla and fill the wrap with veggies and chickpeas. You can replace the chickpeas with another protein alternative, like falafel, veggie chicken, or meat. Look at this recipe for great instruction and ideas!

Grain Bowls

For the grain bowls, you can choose a variety of grains to be your base, from rice quinoa to couscous; you can use anything you prefer. Cook the grains in advance alongside sauteeing some vegetables such as bell peppers and zucchini, and in olive oil with spices of your liking.

To assemble the bowls, put the grains at the bottom and the vegetables on top, and you can add a dressing on the side, such as tahini, hummus, or lime dressing. Add falafel again, or cut chicken breast in the bowl if you want protein. It’s one of the great healthy food prep ideas!!

Easy healthy food ideas for Snacks

What a joy snacks are! They are the best way to keep your hunger off until you sit down to have your meal. Moreover, you can use healthy food prep ideas to pre-pack your snacks. These snacks can also serve as a dessert after a meal or an “appetiser” before your meal. How fun!

Savoury Snacks

The best savoury snack I love is as simple as cut-up vegetables and hummus. There’s no need for additional ingredients, and all the prepping you have to do is cut your choice of veggies. My personal favourite is bell peppers. As for the hummus, store-bought hummus will suffice.

Another great snack to make is a simple Japanese cucumber salad. These are so delicious and too easy to make as a snack. You can even turn this into a meal by adding some rice and fish, which is excellent as a snack. To season the cucumbers, you only need rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, cucumbers, and red pepper flakes.

Sweet Snacks

Another snack that you need to try is frozen Greek yoghurt. I remember this went viral on TikTok a few years ago and for the right reasons. Take some vanilla Greek yoghurt, lay it out on a baking tray, and top it with chocolate chips and berries of your choice. Freeze for at least 3 hours.

Additionally, another great sweet snack to keep on you is cut-up apples and peanut butter. It’s another super simple yet classic sweet treat. All you need is the two ingredients and to cut it up! That’s it.

Best Healthy Food Ideas for Dinner

While all these meals could be a dinner meal, here are some “classic” dinner but healthy food prep ideas for your healthy lifestyle journey.

One of the best meals ever is curry, but sometimes, depending on what is in it, it is not the most nutritious. Chole and Indian curry can be made to be extremely healthy, the chickpea serves as a great source of protein, and mixed with various vegetables, it is a balanced meal. Serve it with a side of rice, it is fantastic. Check out this recipe by EatingWell for more info.

Lastly, salmon served with broccoli and rice is always a great staple. You can meal prep the salmon and make it on a skillet with honey, soy sauce, red chilli pepper flakes, and another seasoning. Then, add some boiled broccoli and rice, and it will be perfect.

Conclusion

Hopefully, this blog post gave you some ideas on what meals you can prepare in advance. It is easy to do so as long as you set aside a few hours during the week to eat your meal!

Let me know if you make any of the dishes mentioned! I would love to see it.
